The Secrets of Personal Prayer Life

Dear "Baroda Bible Club" Brothers and Sisters,

Loving Greetings in the Sweet name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Trust this Newsletter will find you all in good health. May the Lord help you to have a good time with him in this coming month. I like to share with you seven points on Prayer, which may be useful to you in your own prayer life. In my personal life I found there are seven basic keys or principles for successful prayer life. To help you to develop your relationship with God, to increase your prayer time, to make you enjoy praying and to get your prayers answered I am giving these things. In my personal life I formed a prayer link with God and received many answers through these keys. In order to make you remember, I like to use the spelling for P-R-A-Y-E-R. Are you ready to learn?

The first letter in the Prayer is ‘P’ this stands for the word Praise.

No one can pray very much without having the basic attitude called gratitude for God. God is a good God. Loving God. There is nothing evil in God. To think of God very highly as our master, adoring God (that means love him deeply and respect him very highly, like him very much and always love to worship God the creator) and grateful to God for all his works in the world and in our personal life is a basic attitude towards God, to develop our Prayer life. Only such people can Praise God in every walk of their life. People forget that all good things are coming from God. (James 1:17 "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning".). In Apostles Paul’s letter to 1 Thes. 5:18 in every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. The same Paul practiced this Praising God in every situation, even when he and Silas were in the jail. (Acts 16:25 and at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Praising God always brings a result. Acts 16:26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.) To a praising person praying to God will be a delightful experience. But to the murmuring heart and the person who questions God’s work, like, Why God did this? Why God did not do this for me? He cannot have a good Prayerful life. Unfortunately even during the life of Jesus Christ our Lord when he healed the ten lepers only one had the gratitude to say thanks to God. (Luke 17:17 And Jesus answering said, were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?) The Bible teaches us to Praise God. Deu 8:10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. In Deu 32:3 I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! That is why king David said in Psa 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. So praises helps us to go near God and feel his living presence. David said in Psa 22:3 Yet Thou art holy, O Thou who art enthroned upon the praises of Israel. When you Praise God you feel that you are very close to the living presence of the all mighty God. That experience is needed for a healthy prayer life.

Secondly the letter "R" stands for our relationship with God, his word & the Church.

Some time we like to grow in our prayer life, but we are not able to get success in it. The reason is that our relationship with God is not close. We could not come close to God mainly because of our sinful life. Because sin separate us from God and his presence. Our relationship with God and his word will make a great difference in our attitude towards Prayer.

[for e.g. Adam and Eve could not go and meet God after disobeying to God. When they came to know God is coming instead of going to him they went and hide themselves.] Gen 3:9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" Gen 3:10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

Relationship with God

[without having a healthy relationship with God, it is not possible to ask some thing in prayer.]

The Bible say’s in Isa 59:1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.

Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Prov 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. In Psa 32:1 David say’s. Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Psa 32:2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. Prov 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. Prov 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

When Daniel confessed his sins and prayed he got the answer from God.

Dan 9:4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands,

Dan 9:5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.

Dan 9:6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

Dan 9:20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill--

Dan 9:21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.

Dan 9:22 He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.

Dan 9:23 As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the message and understand the vision:

To Establish our relationship with God we have to follow these seven steps carefully in our life.

[1], Trust God as your only Saviour and Come to Jesus Christ. [Mat 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.] John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

[2], Repent for your sins without giving any form of excuses. [Prov 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. & Peter told in Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.]

[3], Confess your sins only to Jesus the Savior who died for you. [1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. & Rom 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.]

[4], Take water Baptism for the remission of your sins. [Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Gal 3:27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.]

[5], Wait before God and ask & receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. [Luke 11:9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:11 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Luke 11:12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Because that Holy Spirit only can help you that is why Jesus told his disciples to wait and receive the Holy Spirit. [Acts 1:4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. Acts 1:5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."] (a), To be with us John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- (b), Holy Spirit will teach us all things. John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.. (c), Holy Spirit will help you to understand Jesus better. John 15:26 "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. (d), Conviction of one’s own sin can come by the Holy Spirit. John 16:8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: (e), The Holy Spirit will guide you. John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. Rom 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father".

[6], Read your bible and meditate from it daily for growing in the Lord. 1 Pet 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

[7], Witness for the truth, about what Jesus has done for you and his salvation in your life to others.

In Rev 12:11 They overcame him [satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Acts 8:4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Paul says in Rom 1:15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome.

Relationship with the Word of God

Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psa 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Prov 28:9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.

In Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. "Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Hosea 8:12 I wrote for them the many things of my law, but they regarded them as something alien.

Relationship with the Church helps in our Prayer life.

Without having relationship with God and his Word no body can stay firm in the local Church. Psa 1:5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

[1], Because church is the body of Christ. Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

[2], Jesus is building the church. In Mat 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

[3], Jesus is bringing us to his church. In Acts 2:47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

[4], Loving and having fellowship with one another is possible through Jesus Christ. In 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

When our Lord was on this earth he prayed for our unity. In John 17:20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, John 17:21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:

John 17:23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. This unity of the believers is very important because in that unity we get permanent blessings. In Psa 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! Psa 133:3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

[5], God wants us to be in groups in company of others. Eccl 4:9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: Eccl 4:10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! [Heb 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.]

[6], God wants us to pray for one another. Eph 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

[7], Maintain a good relatioship with your local church Pastor for your blessings and growth. [Heb 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. & In 2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 2 Tim 4:4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.]

The third letter in Prayer is "A" that is for Asking God in Faith.

Many times we are not receiving any blessings from the Lord because we are not asking God for our Blessings and needs. Nowadays many believers and Christians depend on other people prayer for meeting their own basic needs and they do not practice themselves to have a close conduct and a close communion with God. If your child is not talking to you and started asking to you all their requirements through other people ‘How long you can tolerate it? If god is your Heavenly Father and if you have your birthright to call him Abba, Father Why you are not using it. [John 1:12 & Rom. 8:15]

Jesus told every one who asks would receive in Mat. 7:8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened. Mat 7:9 "Or what man is there among you, when his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone? Mat 7:10 "Or if he shall ask for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? Mat 7:11 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

Many times we are not asking anything to God. In order to ask God, that is what prayer is in the real life situation. If we talk with People that is conversation but if we talk with God that is prayer. Jesus also thought us how to pray.

Mat 18:19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. Mat 18:20 "For where two or three have gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst."

Mat 21:22 "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."

John 14:13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.

John 14:14 you may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you.

John 16:23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth; my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

The fourth letter in Prayer is "Y" that is for Yielding to the Perfect Will of God.

Only when we do the will of God we can enter the heaven. It is a truth.

Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Prov 14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Psa 37:23 The steps of a man are established by the LORD; And He delights in his way.

Psa 37:24 When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.

Psa 37:25 I have been young, and now I am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Or his descendants begging bread.

Isa 58:11 "And the LORD will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.

John 14:13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.

John 14:14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Acts 13:2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Acts 13:3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

Acts 22:14 "Then he said: 'The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth.

1 John 3:22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.

The Fifth letter in Prayer is "E" that is mainly for two different things [1] Early Morning Prayer, [2] Earnest Prayer.

Why Early in the Morning ?

Prov 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Isa 55:6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.

In the life of Abraham.

Gen 19:27 Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the LORD.

In the life of Jacob

Gen 28:18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. Gen 28:20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear. Gen 28:21 so that I return safely to my father's house, then the LORD will be my God

Moses the great Leader

Exo 34:2 Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai. Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain.

Exo 34:3 No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain."

Exo 34:4 So Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the LORD had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.

In the Tent of meeting.

Exo 29:38 "This is what you are to offer on the altar regularly each day: two lambs a year old.

Exo 29:39 Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight.

For the Duty of the Priest Aaron.

Exo 30:7 "Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps.

Num 28:23 Prepare these in addition to the regular morning burnt offering.

The Parents of Samuel

1 Sam 1:19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the LORD and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah lay with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.

The duty of the Levites

1 Chr 23:30 They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening

In the life of Job

Job 1:5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.

In the life of David

Psa 5:3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psa 57:8 Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

Psa 59:16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. Psa 88:13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. Psa 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psa 108:2 Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. Psa 119:147 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. Psa 130:6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Psa 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

In the life of Isaiah

Isa 33:2 O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.

In the life of Jeramiah

Lam 3:22 Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.

Lam 3:23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

In the life of Ezekiel

Ezek 12:8 In the morning the word of the LORD came to me:

In the life of our Lord Jesus Christ

Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Luke 6:12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

Luke 6:13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:

In the life of the Apostles

Acts 5:21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

God can help you to get up early in the morning.

Isa 50:4 The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.

[2],Earnestly Pray

Psa 63:1 A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Mark 5:23..and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live."

Luke 7:4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this,

Luke 7:5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue."

Luke 22:44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Acts 12:5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

1 Th 3:10 Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith.

Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

James 5:17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. James 5:18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.

The sixth letter in Prayer is "R" and it means Receive your answer from God by Faith.

Many times we Pray to God for so many things but we are not waiting in expectation to receive that. Some time we do not have faith in our own prayer. But the word of God says if we have this faith that God will answer our prayer and without doubt ask God he will surely answer us. In the Bible in Prov 28:10 … the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

Jesus told in Mat 21:22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." In Luke 18:42 And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." Mat 17:20 He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." 1 John 3:22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. As our Lord Jesus told in Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

Mark 16:18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

These messages are given with a burden to promote the good news of the Gospel. Kindly spread this messages to your friends if it was useful to you. Our Prayer for you is as Jesus our Lord told in John 8:31 ….the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. In John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." That all must be the disciple of Jesus Christ by following the teachings of Jesus and get a deliverance by knowing the word of God.

May the Lord bless you and use you in the days to come.
