The LORD's Prayer |
The Model Prayer both commands and teach all Christians ‘how to pray? This Model Prayer to follow contains six petitions, divided equally. The first three (Mat 6: 9-10) concern God's holiness and purposes; the second group (Mat 6:11-13) contain three personal requests. Both types are valid requests, but God's honor and kingdom must take precedence. This prayer is also known as " The Lord’s prayer." Since, it is thought by our Lord Jesus Christ, as a model of prayer to all His disciples.
1. Our Father in heaven, {so, we have to Pray always to the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only mediator} In Mat 7:11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 2. 'hallowed be your name’, Always start your prayer with thanks giving as in Phil 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. If we are not giving Praise to God, as in Acts 12:23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. Paul says in 2 Cor 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 3. Mat 6:10 ‘your kingdom come’, (We where earlier belong to the kingdom of this world and Satan. But now we are being purchased by the blood of the lamb. In Rev 5:9 …"because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation".) The kingdom of God is for those who do the will of God. Praying for God's will to be done is praying for God's kingdom to come among us, for His kingdom comes when His will is done. First, we have to remember that we are not of this world. Though we are living in this world, it is not belongs to us. So every day, our longing must be like this let your kingdom come. Second, Some how through our efforts many must come to this God’s kingdom every day for this we have to witness to others. Third, Waiting for the second coming of the saviour, and getting ready for that because he has promised us to come and take us to that kingdom. 4. your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Now, we belong to the kingdom of God in that case, we have to do the will of God, not to do any thing as this world does. Jesus told, in Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 5. Mat 6:11 Give us today our daily bread. We must have a living hope on God and must live only by faith. As Paul said in Phil 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Jesus told us not to worry about any need but present all your needs before God. Since he is our heavenly Father, in Mat 6:8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. In Mat 6:32 & Luke 12:30; ‘For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.’
6. Mat 6:12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. To get forgiveness from God we must also learn to forgive others. If we are not forgiving anybody their sins God also will not forgive us. In Mat 6:14 & 15, For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Jesus told in Mark 11:25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." 7. Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, Jesus told his disciples to pray at least one hour that they may not fall in to temptation. Our prayer fellowship with God alone can help us to overcome the temptations brought to us by the tempter. In Mat 26:41; "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." Also in Mark 14:38 & Luke 22:40 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." In Luke 22:46 "Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation." Paul says in 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 8. but deliver us from the evil one. Jesus came to deliver us from the devil. He has given us the authority to drive out demons in his name. So in order to be a over comer, we need the help and power of our Lord Jesus. We have to totally depend on him. In John 15:5 "… apart from me you can do nothing. Apostle Paul says in 2 Cor 1:10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, Jesus told us in John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. |
