There are some principles our Lord Jesus Christ gave to all his disciples before sending them out as the workers for the harvest. In this I am trying to put all these principles in an order so that we can also learn and practice them to be used by the same master as his workers in his harvest field.
- Luke 10:1 “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. {First of all we must know it is the Lord of the Harvest appoints workers. Secondly, To go together as two by two to increase our effectiveness [one can chase thousand and two can chase ten thousand]. Thirdly, to go everywhere.
- Luke 10:2 “He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest , therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field . [The more we realize the magnitude of the task and the workers are few we cannot add workers but pray to the master of the harvest to add more workers]
- Luke 10:3 “ Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves . [we have to go in spite of strong opposition.]
- Luke 10:4 “ Do not take a purse or bag or sandals ; and do not greet anyone on the road . [Firstly, We need not to worry about the financial needs or keep waiting until we get the needed money, because the finance many times will be provided by the Lord as we act for God in faith, the needed finance will be given in the right time. Secondly, do not carry many things (Bag) and Do not depend on your own resources and protections (sandals). It is the work of God to protect you and provide the needed things. Thirdly, Keep going with one mind with out losing the goal, keep going to the place without being side tracked.]
- Luke 10:5 & 6, "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house' . If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. [We are going to give mainly Peace to all the people.]
Luke 10:7 “ Stay in that house , eating and drinking whatever they give you , for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house. [God himself will guide us to the right place and provide us what we need, we need not to ask them.]
- Luke 10:8 & 9, " When you enter a town and are welcomed , eat what is set before you . Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you .' [Firstly, we have to pray for the healing of all the sick people. Secondly to preach about the kingdom of God .]
May the Lord help each one of us to do these things to get ourselves qualified to become the harvest workers.
Yours in the kingdom of God's service,
Rev. Dr. T. Marcus Devasahayam.
