Luke 10:41 & 42; "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, " You are worried and upset about many things , vs.42, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
Dear brothers and sisters,
Loving greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today let us see about the importance of casting all our worries upon the lord. When we worry it shows that we do not trust the lord who has said that he will never leave us nor forsake us. If we can trust the lord, we will prosper like a tree near the water at all times as in Jer.17:7 & 8 ; "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD , whose confidence is in him. Vs.8, He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit ."
When we worry we can not grow in our spiritual life as in Mat 13:22, “The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.” There are different types of worries we have in these days:
- Do not worry about what you have lost as in 1 Sam 9:20, “As for the donkeys you lost three days ago, do not worry about them ; they have been found. And to whom is all the desire of Israel turned, if not to you and all your father's family?"
- Do not worry about your own life as in Mat 6:25, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life , what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
- Do you worry about clothes as in Mat 6:28, "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
- Do not worry about tomorrow as in Mat 6:34, ‘Therefore do not worry about tomorrow , for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
- Do not worry about what to say or how to say it as in Mat 10:19, “But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it . At that time you will be given what to say,
- Do not worry about any beforehand as in Mark 13:11, “Whenever you are arrested, and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
- Do not worry about your own defense before any one as in Luke 12:11, "When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say,”
What we must do when we have worries of this world? We must tell to God every thing without hiding anything to him as in Phil 4:6 & 7, “Do not worry about anything. But pray and ask God for everything you need. And when you pray, always give thanks. Vs.7, And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
How to chosen what is better in life, which will not be taken away from us?
If a person can sit in the feet of God and listen to him that will not be taken away from him as in Luke 10:39, “And she had a sister called Mary, who also, having sat down at the feet of Jesus was listening to his word .”
But we have to take the needed thing in this hour from the lord that is the spirit of Prayer as in Luke 10:42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
First of all, let us sit in the feet of God that is coming very close to God and pray.
We have to watch and pray before the Lord that we may not fall into temptations as in Mat 26:41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." Also we do not know about the exact time of His coming as in Mat 25:13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
Why we have to be watchful and pray? We must be watchful and pray to avoid all the weeds as in Mat 13:25, “but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away.”
Let us be alert to pray as in Luke 21:34 to 36 ; “ Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation (debauchery) and drunkenness and the worries (fears) of this life , and that day catch you unexpectedly, vs.35, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Vs.36, Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."
When we pray we gain strength as in Luke 22:43, “An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.” But those who slept and rested were exhausted as in Luke 22:45, “When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.”
Secondly, let us listen to Jesus our Lord to learn each day some spiritual lessons throughout our lives to get our souls rest as in Mat 11:29; “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” When we listen and obey we become a blessed person as in Luke 11:28 He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
The benefit of learning and obeying is great. When we hear from our master and obey we will be building our house on the solid rock (Jesus) as in Mat 7:24 & 25; "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Vs.25, The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
How we can listen to the voice of the Lord?
Luke 10:16, "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me." If they could not listen shake the dust off your feet and leave as in Mark 6:11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."
Who can listen to God? All those who are for the truth can listen to him as in John 18:37, "Jesus answered, "for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
May the Lord help each one of us to follow him without any worries by daily casting our burdens upon the lord in faith, sit in His feet daily, and learn some thing for our spiritual life from Him. Amen.
For Further Bible Study:
Luke 8:14, “The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.”
Mat 6:31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
Luke 12:22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.
Luke 12:26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
Luke 12:29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.
Luke 21:14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.
Mark 14:38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
Mark 4:19, ‘but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.”
John 6:45 It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
