Mat 10:16, “I am
sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and
as innocent as doves.”
Dear brothers and sisters,
Loving
greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today let us meditate about
the real situation in life through which a follower of Jesus Christ will go
through in this world as per our Master’s prediction. The followers of Jesus
Christ are called here the sheep and the worldly people (who may not know the
lord Jesus Christ) among whom they are suppose to go and witness for the lord
Jesus Christ are called the wolfs in a figurative manner to show the type of
relationship they may find in this world. But, one thing is very sure that
both the wolf and the sheep cannot go a long way as friends in any given
circumstance in this world. That is why Jesus also told to His disciples in
advance, if the world hate you because of me do not wonder about it as in Mat
10:22, “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the
end will be saved.” So, when all the people hate us because of the lord Jesus
Christ that is the time we must stand firm in our faith otherwise we will
lose our salvation and get backslidden from our Christian commitment. These
sufferings only make us to get the blessings of God as in Luke 6:22, “Blessed
are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject
your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.”
Jesus
told his disciples to do two things here on this earth (those who follow him
very sincerely) to be watchful as in Mat 10:16,
“Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” There are two
things we must keep in mind and do as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.
First of all, we must pray and develop our shrewdness (that is wisdom from
God) even if we born in this world with a little knowledge and wisdom to act
we need not to worry because our lord Jesus Christ is the real wisdom and if
we ask Him in faith he will give us this as in James 1:5, “If any of you
lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding
fault, and it will be given to him.” Secondly, we must live a very innocent
life (blameless, guiltless) like a dove. So that when our lord comes we will
be worthy and be qualified to be with Him in the second coming.
May
the lord help each one of us to be really very bold since there will be
persecutions and oppositions in this world, if we follow the lord Jesus
Christ and try to be His witness for the lord among those who do not know
Him. Amen.
