Dear brothers and sisters,
Loving greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Today let us see about the importance of controlling our
tongue to live successfully in this world. There are some seven
things about controlling the tongue. In all these seven areas
we can see the importance of controlling once tongue. The one
who is not able to control him self will be like a Prov 25:28,
“Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks
self-control.
First of all, When a person ridicules or put down his neighbor
it shows that he lacks judgment as in Prov.11:12, “A man
who lacks judgment derides (ridicule, scoff, put down, disparage
and mock) his neighbor,” It is easier for a man to mock
at his neighbor as he feels than to control his emotions and words
to speak without hurting somebody's feelings. But a man who has
good judgment will not take risk and mock his neighbor without
any mercy.
Secondly, the more one person understands the more he will be
careful to speak with his neighbor as in Prov.11:12, “But
a man of understanding holds his tongue.”
Thirdly, when a person speaks his mind out without thinking to
whom he reveals the secrets of his friends will lose the confidence
of them as in Vs.13, A gossip betrays a confidence,
Fourthly, the man who wants to live a trustworthy life will take
precautions to keep the secrets as in Prov.11: 13, “but
a trustworthy man keeps a secret.”
Fifthly, we should not sin through our tongue. We have to control
the tongue as in Psa 39:1, “A psalm of David. I said, "I
will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle
on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence."
Sixthly, when we speak more their are more chances of committing
sin so we must try to control our words as in Prov 10:19 When
words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue
is wise.
Seventhly, when we speak irresponsible word that will pierce others
like a sword as in Prov 12:18, “Reckless words pierce like
a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
May the lord help us to control our tongue so that we will be
more useful to many people in this world and the tongue of the
righteous will nourish others as in Prov 10:21 The lips of the
righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. Amen.
