Prov 4:10, “Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Loving greetings in the name of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Today let us see about the importance of listening to the advise of our spiritual father who guides us in the paths of righteousness as in Prov 4:10, “Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.” First of all, When ever we obey to the spiritual advise of the one who is guiding us in our spiritual life on this earth, it brings prosperity and enables us to live longer as in Prov 3:1 & 2, “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.” Also it says it will increase the span of our life in Prov 4:10, “Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.” If you ask how the life span will be increased? The answer is given in Prov 4:20 to 22, “My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Prov 4:21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; Prov 4:22, “for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body.”

Secondly, it will guide us in the way of wisdom as in Prov 4:11, “I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.” As they become wiser in this world they will use all their potential to win souls for the kingdom of God as in Prov 11:30, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.” They will shine for ever and ever as in Dan 12:3, ‘Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”

Thirdly, when you obey to your spiritual father you will not be in a weak position as in Prov 4:12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered (in a weak position) – [in the company or where you work or study you will not be in a embarrassing situation.]

Fourthly, this obedience to the spiritual father will enable us to do things in a very fast manner as in Prov. 4:12, “when you run, you will not stumble.” Prov 4:13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.”

Fifthly, it helps us to keep our body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit in a proper manner by keeping us far away from the sexual sin as in Prov 6:23, “For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life, Prov 6:24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.

Sixthly, when you obey to your spiritual father you will not envy the life of sinful people but with hope you will work for the lord as in Prov 23:17 & 18, “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. Vs.18 There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”

Seventhly the spiritual son who is really walk in the ways of God as a righteous person will make his father and mother happy as in Prov 23:24, ‘The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him.” Also in Prov 27:11, “Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart; then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.”

May the lord help each one of us to get all these blessings in our lives. Amen.

Today's Prayer

Republic of France

Thank God:
1 Evangelical Christianity has grown over the past 40 years despite the massive secularisation of society, indifference and decline in church involvement
2 The Roma (Gypsy) minority is now the most evangelical people in France

Pray for:
1 There are major spiritual strongholds that hinder acceptance of the gospel:
a) The brutal persecutions of the Huguenots (French Protestants) in the 16th and 17th Centuries is a dark stain on the soul of France
b) The French Revolution in 1789-1801 was one of the defining moments of world history
c) The insensitivity of the Anglophone nations, especially England and the USA
d) The surprisingly widespread involvement with occult practices
2 France is at a crossroads
3 France remains historically and culturally Catholic, but there has been a massive numerical decline in both Catholic and mainline Protestant churches
4 The Catholic Church has lost much of its influence in society
