1 Cor 2:1, “When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Loving greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today let us meditate upon the word of God on the power of the Holy Spirit, which can demonstrate and prove the word of God with signs and wonders. Apostle Paul says when we went to start the church to work among the Corinthians; we went without any great talents of a preacher or an orator with great fluency of speech or persuasiveness to convince them to accept the Lord as in 1 Cor 2:1, “When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.” That means what gave Him the opening in that region of Corinth is not of his own inborn talents of speech to convince people to accept the Lord but the God given Power of the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul himself says how he was when he went to Corinth in 1 Cor 2:3, “I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.”

The confidence what a preacher may have on His knowledge to convince his audience cannot help to win souls for the kingdom of God that is what apostle Paul is telling in 1 Cor 2:4 & 5, “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.” My dear people of God we may not have any talents to preach or convince any one about the gospel of God but if we pray and wait for the Holy Spirit to enable us to heal and perform signs and wonders we can be effective tools for the master who has called us. Unless People see these signs and wonders they cannot believe as in John 4:48, "Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe."

When the situation in the first centaury is against preaching the word of God & specially to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in the public places the apostles and believers together prayed to God for the divine empowerment of the Lord through the Holy Spirit as in Acts 4:29 & 30, “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Vs.30, “Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus." God answered such prayer immediately with His Holy Spirit as in Acts 4:31, “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” The result of this is, as the bible says in Acts 4:33, “With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.” Later they did many outstanding miracles for the Lord as in Acts 5:12, “The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. This is what the prophet says in Zec 4:6, 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty. People will get astonished by the power of God as in Acts 8:13, Simon … astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.”

May the lord help each one of us to be very effective to catch men for the saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Further Bible Study

Deu 4:34 Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by miraculous signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?
Deu 6:22 Before our eyes the LORD sent miraculous signs and wonders--great and terrible--upon Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household.
Deu 7:19 You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the miraculous signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.

Deu 34:11 who did all those miraculous signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do in Egypt--to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. Deu 34:12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
Neh 9:10 You sent miraculous signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly the Egyptians treated them. You made a name for yourself, which remains to this day.
Psa 135:9 He sent his signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.
Jer 32:20 You performed miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt and have continued them to this day, both in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown that is still yours. Jer 32:21 You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror. Jer 32:22 You gave them this land you had sworn to give their forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Dan 4:2 It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. Dan 4:3 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation.
Dan 6:27 He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."
Mat 24:24 For false Christ’s and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible. [Mark 13:22]
Acts 14:3 So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders.
Acts 15:12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the miraculous signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.
Rom 15:19 by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
