Dear brothers and sisters,
Loving greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Today let us see about the perils of living a life as
per our own ways, without any discipline or self-control. Right
from the first parents whom God has created in the beginning of
the world this problem exists. There are two verses for us to
know today since they are for life and death so it is very important
for us. When we observe discipline we are for life as in Prov.
10:17, ‘He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but
whoever ignores correction leads others astray.” But if
we walk as per our own understanding and desire we are for death
as in Prov 14:12, “There is a way that seems right to a
man, but in the end it leads to death.” Unless we die to
our self will and desires we cannot follow the lord Jesus Christ.
Let us examine this verse now to know how sin can enter into our
life? As we see in Gen 3:6:
1. “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good
for food – [many times Satan use eye, ears, and feelings
to tempt us to sin. Here eve was constantly seeing this fruit
and slowly getting attracted to this fruit finally Satan using
her weakness and make her fall in sin.
2. And the fruit of the tree was pleasing to the eye, - [if we
keep walking in the road what pleases us then ultimately we will
reach the death as in Pro.14:12.
3. And the fruit of the tree was also desirable for gaining wisdom,
- [our desires cannot be the will of God so we have to crucify
the desires to own Jesus Christ as in Gal 5:24.]
4. She took some and ate it. – [she exercised her own self
will and freedom to commit sin and she not even consulted any
one including her own husband to eat the fruit.]
5. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, - [after
taking the fruit against the will of god she with determination
made her husband also ate the fruit so that he can also sin in
the same manner.]
6. And he ate it. – [he chose to please his wife more than
the lord who gave the command not to eat that fruit.]
7. After wards together they try to conceal the sin and try to
seek their own remedies rather than coming to God almighty as
in Gen 3:7 & 8, “Then the eyes of both of them were
opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves
together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his
wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the
garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God
among the trees of the garden.”
May the Lord help each one of us to keep the commandments of
God and have some discipline in life because the self-control
is the fruit of the Holy Spirit as it is said in Gal. 5: 23. When
we have this we will not fall into sin. Because God is not tempting
us to sin as in James 1:13 to 15, “When tempted, no one
should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be
tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted
when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin,
when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
