Dear brothers and sisters,

Loving greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today let us see about the disturbance what we feel in our heart which is depressed and totally downcast and how we can come out of these heartaches with the help of God. What we should do in such times of depressions and disappointments? The man’s soul has three things in it namely, the will, the mind and the feelings. Many times we are not feeling good and our mind is depressed and we could not have a strong will to act. Here we see the psalmist asks himself and his soul a question “why you are downcast and disturbed within you? Then he says, still I have hope in God and I will praise Him because he is my saviour and my God that means in spite of all these disturbances in the heart, he has hope in God as in Psa 43:5, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
Our God do not want to see His people to be downcast in their lives. We see God asking this question to Cain in Gen 4:6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? He becomes downcast when God did not accept his offerings as in Gen 4:5, “but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was angry, and his face was downcast. The remedy what God gave at the time to Cain is in Gen 4:7, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." So we must also do what is right in the sight of God and man and master sin otherwise sin will stay within our reach at the door only.

When the great Prophet Samuel’s mother was downcast in her spirit because she was not respected but mocked by others because of her barrenness (without a child) she went to the church and poured her heart out in prayer as in 1 Sam 1:13, “Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Also in 1 Sam 1:16, “Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief." As she trusted the Lord and poured her heart out in the presence of the lord, what was the outcome of it? What the bible says is, afterwards she never got disturbed in her heart as in 1 Sam 1:18, “Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast. The bible teach each one of us to go before God and tell all our problems to Him as in Phil 4:6 & 7, “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

What all cause the heart to be downcast? There are four things which can affect out heart and cause it to be downcast.
• First of all, in Lam 3:19, “I remember my affliction – [when a person thinks too much about his afflictions]
• Secondly, in Lam 3:19, “I remember my wandering, [when a person is restless and remember all his wanderings which are tiresome in nature specially when it is without any purpose and any result.]
• Thirdly, in Lam 3:19, I remember my bitterness – [when a person remember all the unpleasant past life]
• Fourthly, in Lam 3:19, I remember my gall – [when a person is annoyed and upset in his life]

What we are supposed to do to come out of the depression? Let us see from Psa 42:4 & 5:
1. Let us pour our hearts before God, “These things I remember as I pour out my soul: by hiding we cannot prosper we must be very open before God.
2. Let us go to the house of God as in “how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.
3. Put the total hope on God as in “Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God,
4. We must praise God in all situations as in for I will yet praise him, my Savior and – Praising and thanking God in all situations is very important.

The bible says clearly the Lord will take care of us and comfort the downcast by sending the servant of God to comfort our hearts as in 2 Cor 7:6, But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,”

May the Lord help each one of us to pray and get the right servant of God who can help us in our times of depressions. Amen.
