Prov 23:22, “Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Loving greetings to you in the name of our lord Jesus Christ. Today let us learn about the importance of honoring our earthly and the spiritual parents who have given us life. Every one has two types of parents when a person is born into this world he has an earthly parent. No one can possibly born into this world without the parent. The same way one must have spiritual parents through whom they were introduced to the kingdom of God. We must develop listening ears to hear and obey their voice to get more blessings. Because the ways which are all seemingly good in the eyes of the people, the end is death.

When the patriarch Jacob was about to die in the land of Egypt, he called all his children and the grand children to come near to his bed and advised them as in Gen 49:1 & 2, “Then Jacob called for his sons and said: "Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come. "Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob; listen to your father Israel.” Listening to the advices of the elderly parents will definitely will bring us lot of blessings.”

When a child grows into this world it started disrespecting the parent and starts insulting the mother and treat them as if they do not know any thing in this world. That is why the bible says when your mother become old do not mock at her as in Prov 23:22, ‘Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

There are children who drive out their mother after the death of their father after she lost her husband on this earth as in Prov 19:26, “He who robs his father and drives out his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.” The child must grow in respecting and honoring their own father and the mother.

Apostle Paul says this will give the children a long life on this earth when they respect the father and mother in Eph 6:1 to 3, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

May the lord help each one of us to honor the parent and do the will of God on this earthly life. Amen.

1 Antiguans are almost all Christian in name, with many Evangelicals among them, but they are complacent in the face of serious moral and spiritual breakdown
2 Strongholds of sin are drug-dealing, violence, gambling, prostitution and a growing kidnapping ‘industry’
3 Oneness in fellowship and vision is a great need
4 Social and spiritual needs
