Dear brothers and sisters,
Loving greetings to you in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ. Today let us learn something about the extending
our hospitality to the strangers as the bible says in Deu 10:19,
“Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in
the land of Egypt.”
The bible says we should not forget the strangers
those who are living among us and must have a concern for them
as in Heb 13:2 & 3, “Do not forget to entertain strangers,
for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing
it. Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners,
and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”
When apostle Paul writes about the qualifications
for an elder that he writes that he must extend his hospitality
for those who are strangers as in 1 Tim 3:2, “An overseer,
then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate,
prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,…”
When Apostle John writes his letter he comments
about their love for the strangers as in 3 John 1:5 & 6, “Dear
friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers,
even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church
about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in
a manner worthy of God.
We learn from Abraham the father of all believers
that it is very important as he did his hospitality to the strangers.
If we read this passage we can see that the initiative was taken
by Abraham by seeing some strangers coming to his village as in
Gen 18:2 to 5, “Abraham looked up and saw three men standing
nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his
tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.” He said,
"If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass
your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may
all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Let me get you something
to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way--now that
you have come to your servant." "Very well," they
answered, "do as you say."
When they agreed to eat he ran to his wife and
to the servants and tried his best to give a very good food as
in Gen 18:6 to 8, ‘So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah.
"Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour
and knead it and bake some bread." Then he ran to the herd
and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who
hurried to prepare it. He then brought some curds and milk and
the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While
they ate, he stood near them under a tree.”
May the Lord help each one of us to have similar
interest on the strangers so that we can also be the children
of Abraham. Amen.
