When we
study about the life of Joseph, we can learn many things for our spiritual
and earthly life. He has gone through so many problems right from
the beginning of his life. Very early in his life he last his mother
and then because all of his visions and dreams he got the enmity of
his brothers. Because of his fathers extra love and concern over him,
others in the family hated him more. Because of the garment his father
has presented him with love some more problem added to all. It is
not that easy to see ones own brothers trying to kill their brother
and then selling him to another group of strangers for money.
In the
Egypt, the new country where he was a total stranger and not knowing
the language and their culture not even having any friends or relatives
standing totally as an orphan and not as a free man but as a slave
with out any freedom and rest but their also he could make difference
because God was with him.
Later
with a wrong accusation right in the jail he suffered but there also
he could make a difference because of God.
What ever
your problem may be still If God is with you no body can stop your
growth.
- Gen. 39:1 ‘Now
Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. (Joseph was taken to
a strange country not by his own choice, do not murmur at any time.
)
- Potiphar, an Egyptian
who was one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard, bought
him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. (there he has to
work under a different person who belongs to Egypt that means his
manners, language & customs )
- Gen 39:2 The LORD
was with Joseph and he prospered, (Psa 124:1 to 3, A song of ascents.
Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side-- let Israel say--if
the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us, when their
anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive)
- he lived in the house
of his Egyptian master. (as a slave)
- Gen 39:3 When his
master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success
in everything he did, ( His association with God made a difference,
that is why Apostle Paul sys I can do a all things by the Lord who
strengthens me)
- Gen 39:4 Joseph
found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. ( getting favor
also by the Lord as in Luke 2:52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature,
and in favor with God and men.)
- Potiphar put him
in charge of his household, ( getting the leadership also the
grace of God.)
- he entrusted to his care
everything he owned. ( getting the promotion also the grace
of God.)
- Gen 39:5 From the
time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned,
(Gen 12:3 I will bless those who bless you,) God has promised, the
LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph.
- The blessing of the
LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the
field. (Gen 12:3, all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.")
- Gen 39:6 So he left
in Joseph's care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, (He is
trustable ) he did not concern himself with anything except the food
he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
- Gen 39:7 and after
a while his master's wife took notice of Joseph and said, "Come to
bed with me!" ( It is a test for his integrity this will come in every
one’s life when they are successful)
- Gen 39:7 and after
a while his master's wife took notice of Joseph and said, "Come to
bed with me!" ( we need not to go and sin it will come in search of
us)
- Gen 39:9 No one is
greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from
me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such
a wicked thing and sin against God?" (A man who is committed to the
Lord will not sin even when sin comes to him)
- Gen 39:10 And though
she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her
or even be with her. (some time tests will come as a chain to test
us continuously )
- Gen 39:11 One day
he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household
servants was inside. (some time Satan will try to forces us to sin
to test our willpower) as in Gen 39:12 She caught him by his cloak
and said, "Come to bed with me!" But he left his cloak in her hand
and ran out of the house.
- Gen 39:14 she called
her household servants. "Look," she said to them, "this Hebrew has
been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with
me, but I screamed. (Jesus told to his disciples in Mat 5:11 "Blessed
are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all
kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. So do not wonder
when you here them speak a lie about you next time)
- Gen 39:20 Joseph's
master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king's
prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison,
( False accusations against you will help us to get ready for the
next promotions as in Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things
to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are
called according to His purpose.)
- Gen 39:21 the LORD
was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the
eyes of the prison warden. ( This must be our strength we must always
see to that the Lord is with us as in Psa 124:1 (A Song of Ascents,
of David.) "Had it not been the LORD who was on our side," Let Israel
now say, Psa 124:2 "Had it not been the LORD who was on our side,
When men rose up against us; Psa 124:3 Then they would have swallowed
us alive, When their anger was kindled against us;
- Gen 40:6 When Joseph
came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected.
Gen 40:7 So he asked Pharaoh's officials who were in custody
with him in his master's house, "Why are your faces so sad today?"
(He had a concern for others and trying to help them) as in Gen 40:8
"We both had dreams," they answered, "but there
is no one to interpret them." Then Joseph said to them, "Do
not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams."
- Gen 40:14 "But when
all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention
me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. (Our promotion in life
will come only from God not by any recommendation)
- Gen 40:15 For I was
forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I
have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon." (false accusations
will help us to get mature life fast)
- Gen 40:23 The chief cupbearer,
however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him. (always people forget)
- Gen 41:9 Then the chief
cupbearer said to Pharaoh, "Today I am reminded of my shortcomings.
(God reminds us
every
thing in the right time)
- Gen 41:14 So Pharaoh
sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When
he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh. (God
will lift us in the right time)
- Gen 41:16 "I cannot do
it," Joseph replied to Pharaoh, "but God will give Pharaoh the answer
he desires." (Always give the credit to God)
- Gen 41:25 "Then
Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same.
God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. (Had a gift from
God and used that also)
- Gen 41:28 "It is just
as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.
(Always spoke and exalted about God ) as in Gen 41:32 The reason the
dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been
firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon.
- Gen 41:33 "And now let
Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of
the land of Egypt. ( He is not an x-ray alone but can give solutions
as well) also in Gen 41:34 Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over
the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven
years of abundance. Also in Gen 41:36 This food should be held in
reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine
that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by
the famine."
- Gen 41:37 The plan seemed
good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. ( When we do any thing with
the grace of God it will be accepted.)
- Gen 41:38 to 40, So Pharaoh
asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the
spirit of God? Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all
this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.
You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit
to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater
than you." ( God has promised us to promote us so it will come as
in Deu 28:14 and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command
you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to
serve them.)
- Gen 41:41 So Pharaoh
said to Joseph, "I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of
Egypt. Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it
on Joseph's finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put
a gold chain around his neck. He had him ride in a chariot as his
second-in-command, and men shouted before him, "Make way !" Thus he
put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh said to
Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, but without your word no one will lift hand
or foot in all Egypt. Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah
and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to be
his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt.
- Gen 41:46 "Joseph
was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of
Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh's presence and traveled throughout
Egypt. (God can give us a success even in a young age.)
- As Apostle Paul says
in Rom 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good
of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
So learn to be very patient.
May
the Lord help us to learn some thing from the life of Joseph and get
success in our life as well.
