BIBLE
TEXT:
Acts 1:4
& 5, JESUS gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but
wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak
about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will
be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth."
Acts 11:16
Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water,
but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
MEANING:
The initial filling of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Believer.
CENTRAL
TRUTH: A CHRISTIAN WITHOUT THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST
IS LIKE A LAMP WITHOUT OIL!
THE BAPTISM
OF THE HOLY GHOST IS:
- ORDAINED BY CHRIST
- Joel 2:28 &
29, 'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your
sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and
women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
- .Luke 24:49 I
am going to send you what my Father has promised; but
stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on
high.".
- Acts 1:4 Jesus gave
them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift
my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
- Eph 5:18 Do not get
drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled
with the Spirit.
2. SALVATION,
WATER BAPTISM & Holy Spirit Baptism.
- Acts 2:38 & 39, Peter
replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your
children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God
will call."
- Acts 8:12 to 16, But
when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom
of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men
and women. Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed
Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the
word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived,
they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had
simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
- Acts 19:5 to 7, On hearing
this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When
Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they
spoke in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve men in
all.
3.
IT IS BENEFICIAL TO ALL THE BELIEVERS.
- Acts 1:8 But you will
receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and
you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
- John 14:16 & 18,
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor
to be with you forever--the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept
him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him,
for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as
orphans; I will come to you
- John 14:26 But the
Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things and will remind you
of everything I have said to you.
- John 15:26 "When
the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the
Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about
me.
- John 16:7 & 11,
But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away.
Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go,
I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world
of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard
to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness,
because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;
and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now
stands condemned.
- John 16:13 But when
he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all
truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only
what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 6:14
After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began
to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."
John 6:15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him
king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.
- Luke 12:12 for the
Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."
- Rom 8:26 In the same
way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not
know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes
for us with groans that words cannot express.
4. FOR
EVERY BELIEVER
- Acts 2:39 The promise
is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all
whom the Lord our God will call."
- Acts 19:2 and asked
them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"
They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy
Spirit."
- Acts 8:15 When they
arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy
Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of
them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received
the Holy Spirit.
- Acts 9:17 Then Ananias
went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he
said, "Brother Saul, the Lord--Jesus, who appeared to you on the
road as you were coming here--has sent me so that you may see again
and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
- Rom 8:9 to 11,
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the
Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does
not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your
spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of
him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised
Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through
his Spirit, who lives in you.
- Eph 1:13 And you also
were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with
a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
5.
ACCOMPAINED BY THE EVIDENCE OF " SPEAKING IN OTHER TOUNGES "
Eph 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word
of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked
in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
- Acts 2:4
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. [As the Spirit
of God enable them they all spoke in tongue.]
- Acts 10:44 to
46, While Peter was still speaking these words, the
Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised
believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift
of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For
they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter
said,
- Acts 19:6
When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them,
and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

WHY GOD CHOOSE SPEAKING IN TOUNGES AS THE EVIDENCE OF THE BAPTISM OF
THE HOLY GHOST :
James
1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep
a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion
is worthless. [To control our tongues God is touching our tongue.]
James 3:2
We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what
he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.
James 3:3
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we
can turn the whole animal.
James 3:4
Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven
by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the
pilot wants to go.
James 3:5
Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great
boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
James 3:6
The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of
the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his
life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
James 3:7
All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being
tamed and have been tamed by man,
James
3:8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly
poison.
James 3:9
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse
men, who have been made in God's likeness.
James 3:10
Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should
not be.
James 3:11
Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
James 3:12
My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs?
Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

the door will be opened.
Luke 11:11
"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a
snake instead?
Luke 11:12
Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
Luke 11:13
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy
Spirit to those who ask him!"
